DRC Newsletter Hurricane Season 2005 The 2005 hurricane season brought the strongest storms and the worst natural disaster in our nation's history. The DRC family of companies is proud to have assisted in the recovery following the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma affecting the Florida Keys, throughout Mississippi and Louisiana, and into Houston, Texas. To date, DRC has successfully completed over $130,000,000 in disaster remediation in the hardest hit parishes of Louisiana, in Monroe, Escambia, and Miami-Dade counties in Florida, and in the eastern coastal counties of Texas. DRC continues today to assist in affected areas of Louisiana and Florida. Hurricane Season 2004 In the aftermath of hurricanes Charley, Frances, Jeanne and Ivan, DRC contracted in excess of 30 contracts throughout the state of Florida and North Carolina. In approximately 100 days DRC removed and disposed in excess of 9,000,000 cubic yards of debris (vegetative and C&D). DRC also recovered, screened and restored tens of thousands of cubic yards of displaced sand to restore 15 miles of beaches destroyed in Escambia County, Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan. September 2003 - February 2004 Hurricane Isabel - State of Virginia. In response to the extensive devastation caused by Hurricane Isabel, DRC was immediately tasked through its existing Pre-Event Contracts to initiate recovery and debris removal by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the State of Virginia Parks Department. DRC worked throughout eight counties for VDOT and eleven State Parks for the Parks Department. DRC removed and processed through separation and grinding over 2,750,000 cubic yard of debris in less than 110 workdays. July 2003 Operation Iraqi Freedom. DRC entered into several contracts in Baghdad, Iraq. The first of which is for a 150 man green field camp at the Baghdad International Airport (“BIAP”). Another contract is in place to provide passenger screenings and check points at the airport, plus security facilities and bomb disposal facilities at Check Point One, the primary check point facility for BIAP. DRC also provided ex-British Army Ghurka soldiers contracted as armed security guards to relieve U. S. Military soldiers at the military BIAP check points. In response to these contracts, DRC recruited 53 ex-British Ghurkas from Nepal to fill the security positions at the Baghdad International Airport. 2002-2003 In 2002 and 2003, DRC completed numerous task orders under our five-year IDIQ construction and emergency services contract for the United States Coast Guard. Most recently, DRC was awarded an anti-terrorism, force protection task through the Department of Homeland Security. This contract includes the construction of perimeter security fencing, emergency power, security gates; security lighting and various force protection structures. These projects are located throughout the Eastern Seaboard on federal government installations. Also in 2002 and 2003 DRC performed debris reduction operations in Guam in the recovery from Typhoon Chata’an and Super typhoon Pongsona. 2001-2002 DRC completed various construction contracts in 2001 and 2002 for drainage projects, beach/dune restoration (Galveston County, Texas), and wetlands restoration (Oklahoma). DRC responded to the Floods in West Virginia in 2001 building an emergency subdivision on Tom’s Mountain for relocation of flood victims. In 2002, DRC also responded to the floods in Virginia by clearing road and streams of debris and waste. 3 October 2001 The City of Kemah, Texas issued the Notice to Proceed to DRC for a $539,025 contract for drainage improvements to Bel Street in the downtown area of the City. The project is expected to be completed by 22 January 2002. 2 October 2001 The US Coast Guard, Civil Engineering Unit - Cleveland has exercised the First Option Year of a Five Year Pre-Event contract with DRC, Inc. This contract covers Emergent and Routine Repairs to Coast Guard facilities in the mid-Atlantic states of North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland. In the first year of the contract DRC was issued 6 Task Orders for projects at the following facilities: Little Creek, VA; Portsmouth, VA; Avon, NJ; Point Pleasant, NJ; Atlantic City, NJ; and Fort Dix, NJ. 10 September 2001 The US Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, has exercised the Second Option Year of a Pre-Event contract with DRC, Inc. This contract covers Debris Removal/Reduction and Site Management Operations after any natural or man-made catastrophe or major disaster for the states of North and South Carolina.
The US Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District, has exercised the Second Option Year of a Pre-Event contract with DRC, Inc. This contract covers Debris Removal/Reduction and Site Management Operations after any natural or man-made catastrophe or major disaster for the states of Arkansas and Oklahoma. 4 September 2001 The US Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, has awarded a contract to DRC, Inc. for emergency response to the recent major disaster declaration issued by President Bush for the state of West Virginia. The declaration covers damage to private and public property from severe storms, flooding and landslides starting May 15. DRC's contract covers development of a site located at New Hope Village (formerly called Tom's Mountain) in McDowell County, WV, and includes construction of access roads, utilities, sewer, and electrical connections to accommodate 68 temporary mobile housing units being provided by FEMA. This contract covers Debris Removal/Reduction and Site Management Operations after any natural or man-made catastrophe or major disaster for the states of Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and the District of Columbia. DRC has similar contracts with the USACE for the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Arkansas and Oklahoma. In total, DRC's pre-event contracts with the USACE and various cities and counties throughout the United States encompasses approximately 15% of the entire US population.
